FROM INTERIM POLICE CHIEF DAVE DARIN www.kohlerpolice.com
Congratulations to Officer Katie Schoch on successfully completing her mandatory one year probationary period! Katie is a valued member of the KPD and is now in a “permanent” status.

    Construction
Everyone has noticed the large amount of construction in the Village – Aurora Hospital site, Woodlake Shops parking lot enhancement, the Crossings subdivision development, and the Kohler Memorial Theater. The KPD Officers are closely monitoring all of the areas as time allows. Construction equipment, including dump trucks are large, loud, and kick up a lot of dust. They often give the optical illusion that they are speeding. Officers have been, and will continue, to use both radar and laser speed detection devices in those areas to assure everyone’s safety. Please use caution while travelling through those areas.

    Special Events –
Saturday August 10th – Full Moon Half Marathon
Sunday August 18th – Destination Kohler Triathlon
Be aware that there may be some sharing of the roads with athletes required, as well as some temporary road closures.

FROM PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR BRETT EDGERLE
    CLEARINGS SUBDIVISION
Construction of the newest subdivision started in July. It is located north of the Kohler Cemetery, west of Woodland Road. Please drive cautiously and be aware of construction traffic.

    MULCH
Mulch is available for $10 per yard plus tax, delivered. Call 459-3873 to place an order. Deliveries are Fridays only.

    GARAGE SALE SIGNS
One temporary “garage sale” or “for sale” sign shall be permitted on each lot. Signs located on public property will be removed by the Public Works Department or Police Department.

    DISPOSABLE WIPES
Residents are cautioned against flushing disposal wipes down the toilet. Although many wipes are labeled “disposable” or “flushable”, quite often they clog sewer laterals and mains. The preferred method of disposal is to bag the wipes and place in your garbage receptacle. During normal maintenance checks, a sanitary sewer main was found to be on the verge of clogging due to these wipes. Fortunately, the DPW staff was able to clear this obstruction before a sewer back-up occurred.

    GARBAGE RECEPTACLES
Residents are encouraged to store their garbage receptacles in discrete locations. Ideally they should be stored in a garage. Other suitable areas include side/back yards, or any other area screened from public view. Please be reminded that all containers must be stored with the lids securely closed and away from any heat source (grill).

FIRE HYDRANT FLUSHING AND WATER VALVE EXERCISING
During the months of August and September, the Village Public Works Department will be exercising water valves. The Department will also be performing maintenance on fire hydrants and flushing the mains. The work will be performed Monday through Thursday. Residents should be aware that there will be periods of cloudy and discolored water as sediment and mineral deposits in the water mains are disturbed.

    NOXIOUS WEEDS/GRASS LENGTH
According to Village Ordinance 8.24, it is the duty of every homeowner to destroy all noxious weeds on their property before they go to seed. Examples of noxious weeds are Canadian thistle, English charlock, wild mustard, creeping jenny, goats beard and cotton-bearing trees.  Also, grass that exceeds six-inches in height is in violation of this ordinance. The Village gives a five-day notice to the homeowner to mow their grass. Otherwise, the Village will mow at the expense of the homeowner.

    KOHLER MEMORIAL THEATER
The theater is being renovated with completion scheduled in late 2019.  Please be aware of construction vehicles and material staging adjacent to the theater.

POTABLE WATER CROSS CONNECTION CONTROL (BACKFLOW) PROGRAM
The Village of Kohler is required to execute a cross connection control (backflow preventer) program to eliminate potable water cross connections. Residential backflow preventers may be required on lawn irrigation systems, wet fire protection systems, hot water heating (boiler) systems, swimming pool fills, water features, etc. Backflow preventers may also be required if there is another water source on the site such as a well, pond, river, etc. Backflow preventers are the property of the water customer and the responsibility lies with the customer for annual testing and maintenance. The water customer must contract with a licensed tester to perform the required annual tests. Most local plumbers are certified to test backflow preventers.

The contractor hired to oversee Kohler’s backflow program is Aqua Backflow, a nationally-recognized firm located in Elgin, IL specializing in cross connection control management. Aqua Backflow can be reached at 847-742-2296 with any questions. Your Village of Kohler contact, Brett Edgerle, can be reached at 920-459-3881. All water customers will be contacted by Aqua Backflow at some point over the next two years to perform a site survey. Inspectors will be surveying your property to be sure that your water systems are protected from existing or potential cross connections.

The Kohler Cross Connection Control Program is designed to safeguard public health. We ask for your cooperation with our program, its enforcement, and any requests for access or information that come from Aqua Backflow or Village staff.
