The Kohler Blue Bombers boys varsity soccer team celebrated the opening of the newly renovated Ebben Field on October 19 with a big win at the regional semi-final over the Cedar Grove-Belgium Rockets. They went on to defeat Howards Grove (1-0), securing their first regional championship since 2011, and Brookfield Academy (2-0) for the sectional semi-final.
The Bombers had one more match to win to clinch a trip to state, and they delivered by defeating Hartland’s Lake Country Lutheran in the October 28 sectional final at Ebben Field. Both teams fought hard in a match that remained scoreless until late in the second half, when Conner Cassidy scored from about 70 feet away to put the Blue Bombers ahead 1-0. The Lightning responded with a goal soon after to tie the match. The Bombers came back with a goal by Nick Wandschneider with about 10 minutes left in the match. Kohler then held on to win 2-1.
The No. 2 seed Bombers will play No. 3 seed Sturgeon Bay in the Division 4 state tournament on Friday, November 3, at 1:30 p.m. If they win that match, they will play for the state championship on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. against the winner of the No. 1 seed The Prairie School vs. No. 4 seed McDon Cent/Regis.
Matches will be played at KOHLER Engines Stadium at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee.
