Sheboygan Service Club presents check to mental health organization
The Sheboygan Service Club (SSC) was pleased to present a check for $78,225.14 to Mental Health America of Sheboygan on January 29, 2018.
Mental Health America offers their thanks to SSC, and to the community, for their generosity and support. Mental Health America Sheboygan Executive Director, Julie Preder said that “Mental Health America in Sheboygan County would like to express their deepest gratitude to Sheboygan Service Club for their dedication to our community around mental wellness. Through the efforts of their members, friends, and community they continue to make a difference in the lives of Sheboygan County residents.” Amanda Hildebrand, current President of Sheboygan Service Club shares that “Sheboygan Service Club is thrilled to have partnered with MHA this year to help support mental health awareness and education in Sheboygan county. We continue to be amazed at the generosity of our community.”
In addition to volunteering within the community, SSC members host one major fundraiser each year known as the Annual Charity Ball. In the past, the Sheboygan Service Club, Inc. and its Foundation have shared the proceeds from its Charity Ball with 25-50 local non-profits annually. The Sheboygan Service Club and its Foundation support anyone in need of compassion, shelter, nourishment or education within Sheboygan County. In an effort to make a larger impact in some of the local organizations and projects we support, the Sheboygan Service Club and its Foundation has for the last eight years designated half of its Charity Ball net proceeds to support one top organization or project each year; while providing the remaining half of our net proceeds to a handful of other local organizations or project and scholarships. SSC is now accepting applications for our 2019 Partner Charity and invites all Sheboygan County 501(c)3 to submit an application to be this year’s Partner. Applications and all supporting documents must be received by March 31st. Visit sheboyganserviceclub.org/charity-ball-fundraiser to retrieve a copy of the application.
2018’s annual charity ball was held on Nov. 10 at The American Club with over 300 people in attendance. More than $160,000 was raised that evening, one half of which was presented to a single organization, Mental Health America Sheboygan, with the remainder distributed to other area charities, projects or scholarships. Sheboygan Service Club provided $10,000 each to Rainbow Kids of Sheboygan County, the Shaw Family Playground, the Sheboygan Food Bank and $3500 to Deland Receiving Home. Preder indicated that “the contribution made to our programming will allow us to expand our Mindful Classroom Initiative by certifying teachers in the curriculum and increasing students in the program. In addition, their donation will support our Mindful programming, support groups, and community education. Our work around mental health is a community effort, and we appreciate beyond words their partnership.”
In addition, financial support was provided to the YMCA, Project Linus, Sheboygan Cancer Fund, JMKAC and the Senior Activity Center. SSC President, Amanda Hildebrand says that “Sheboygan County is a better place because of organizations like MHA, our Food Bank, Rainbow Kids, and the amazing new Shaw Family Park and we are humbled at the opportunity to help serve these, and many more, important causes in our community.”
The theme of this year’s show was the 2011 comedy film Bridesmaids, where the crowd was entertained with musical and comedic skits related to scenes from the movie. The SSC promotes sisterhood and the empowerment of women to lift each other up and create lifelong, meaningful friendships while serving the greater community.
The 2019 Charity Ball will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the American Club. In addition to hosting an annual Charity Ball, SSC also offers area high school seniors the opportunity to apply for one of the four $2000 scholarships to be awarded this year. And in the summer, SSC invites children entering kindergarten to learn the all about keeping safe at Safety Town.
