Five residents who live around Wood Lake in Kohler attended the Village property committee meeting on Monday to express their thoughts on Destination Kohler’s proposal to use the island in the center of the lake as a wedding venue four times per summer.
All the residents in attendance opposed the proposal. Most had issues with the natural setting and wildlife being disrupted, and feared that grading, mowing, and opening the island to four weddings would escalate into even more events being held on the island, with no turning back.
One member of the property committee recommended taking more time to look into the permitting and zoning issues, but two members felt they had received enough public input to move forward with a vote. The committee then voted 2-1 to deny the proposal. See the original article about the proposal here.
