Sheboygan County’s law enforcement agencies issued a joint press release (below) in response to the state mask mandate ordered by Governor Evers.
The mandate states that local and state officials may enforce the order, and violating the order may result in a civil fine up to $200. A number of law enforcement authorities around Wisconsin have stated that they will not enforce the mandate. The release below by Sheboygan agencies does not say whether it will or won’t enforce the mandate. It only asks that citizens voluntarily comply, and don’t call 911 or the dispatchers with any issues involving the emergency order.
Sheboygan County Law Enforcement Press Release
Date: July 31, 2020
Yesterday, Governor Evers declared a Public Health Emergency and signed Emergency Order #1 relating to preventing the spread of COVID-19 by requiring face coverings in certain situations effective August 1, 2020. Sheboygan County Law Enforcement Agencies will utilize this order as an educational tool.
We are asking citizens and visitors of Sheboygan County to voluntarily comply with the order.
Each Law Enforcement agency is committed to keep our citizens safe and take COVID-19 very seriously. We are confident that our citizens can make sound decisions when it comes to their health and the safety of others.
Please do not call 911 or dispatch to report any issues with the Emergency Order. These lines are needed for emergencies. Please follow the Governor’s recommendations.
If you see someone in public not wearing a mask, please remember that some people cannot safely wear face coverings. To see the list of exemptions within the order, the order can be found here. If you see someone not wearing a face covering, please don’t intervene. Continue to wear your mask and practice social distancing of 6 feet or more.
