Bayens and Zielke will describe their rigorous study of D-Day and World War II during the spring and summer of 2018. In their presentation they will highlight information gleaned from the lectures they attended by leading World War II historians, their participation in scholarly study of the war memorials in the D.C. area, and their walk in the footsteps of history on the beaches of Normandy. They will also describe their last day in Normandy – a day of remembrance, when Zielke presented a eulogy at the Normandy American Cemetery for Corporal Joseph Briggeman, a Wisconsin citizen soldier who died in Normandy and who Zielke and Bayens conducted research on.
