Kohler Fall Band Concert

Submitted by Band Director Rich Tengowsk

On Tuesday, November 13, the Kohler Band Department will present its Fall Band Concert. The concert, which features the Concert Band, Symphony Band, and Jazz Ensemble, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Kohler Memorial Theatre.

The program will feature music selections sure to please everyone. The middle school Concert Band will open the concert with Fanfare and Fugue written by Anne McGinty. The famous folk song Shenandoah serves as the main theme in a beautiful rhapsody called Shenandoah Valley. The band will also be playing Grieg’s In the Hall of the Mountain King from the well-known orchestral suite Peer Gynt Suite. The Concert Band will finish their portion of the concert with a fast and exciting piece called Drive.

The high school Symphony Band will perform Parade of the Tall Ships by Jay Chattaway. This piece was written as a dedication to the U.S. Navy Band. The next piece of music is called Mystery on Mena Mountain. It is mysterious piece of music and it is quite moving. A band concert would not be complete without a traditional march, so the band will perform Karl King’s Allied Honor March. To close this portion of the concert, the high school band will perform a new selection called Among the Clouds.

The Jazz Ensemble will conclude the concert with Benny Golson’s Blues March and conclude the concert with Duke Ellington’s It Don’t Mean A Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing.

The bands are directed by Richard Tengowski. The concert is free and open to the public.
