Kohler police assist County Sheriff’s deputy in high speed chase Saturday evening
On Saturday, April 27, 2019 at around 5:26 p.m., a Sheboygan County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for an erratic driving violation on I-43 northbound near Cedar Grove. According to a release from Lieutenant Larry Perronne of the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office, the vehicle took off with the deputy in pursuit.
With no other County deputies nearby to assist, Kohler’s Interim Police Chief David Darin said Kohler officer Adam Schmitz joined the chase as it passed through Kohler on I-43. The suspect vehicle reached top speeds of about 115 mph.
The suspect eventually exited I-43 onto southbound Hwy 42. His front tire went flat after driving through a ditch at Hidden Valley Road and Ajax Street, but he continued to flee at speeds reaching 70 mph even after the tire had fallen completely off.
The suspect vehicle struck a police squad, a tree, and two parked vehicles before the uncooperative subject had to be pepper sprayed and taken into custody.
There were no injuries and the 25 year-old driver faces charges of Fleeing an Officer, Hit and Run Attended Vehicle, OWI, Resisting Arrest and Possession of THC.
