KOHLER, Wis. – October 25, 2017 – KOHLER Original Recipe Chocolates congratulates Lauren Rose Hofland of Sheboygan as its Sip It or Savor It Recipe Contest winner for the Austrian Steam. The recipe enhances Kohler Original Recipe Hot Chocolate Mix by adding Kohler Dark Chocolate Brandy and Jake’s Ginger Tea garnished with whipping cream and chopped Kohler Savory Dark Chocolate. The Austrian Steam hot chocolate recipe was crafted to be a unique twist on a traditional hot cocoa recipe paying homage to the Kohler family’s Austrian heritage.
The Sip It or Savor It event was held at Appley Theater on October 21 as part of the celebrated line-up of culinary seminars and soirees of the 17th annual Kohler Food & Wine Experience, held at Destination Kohler. The five finalists were selected to present their creation to a sold out crowd and special guest judges David Kohler, President & CEO of Kohler Co. and his wife Nina Kohler – Owner of Sweet Potatoes Boutique; Evan Hughes, Co-Founder of Central Standard Craft Distillery; Anette Righi DeFendi, Head Chocolatier-Kohler Original Recipe Chocolates; and Marcus Collier, Food and Beverage Manager, Delaware North—Lambeau Field. The audience voted for the best recipe.
“The contest – a celebration of the launched Dark Chocolate Brandy and Chocolate Mint Brandy – was a great opportunity for people to push traditional boundaries and showcase their creative recipe skills with one of Wisconsinites’ favorite spirit – brandy,” said Gerald Allison, Manager of KOHLER Original Recipe Chocolates.
Hofland was awarded the Sip It or Savor It grand prize package the Ultimate LODGE KOHLER Getaway – including overnight hotel accommodations at AAA Four-Diamond LODGE KOHLER – the brand new premiere hotel in Green Bay’s Titletown –spa services at the KOHLER Waters SPA at LODGE KOHLER, and a special bonus prize of Green Bay Packer Tickets. The runners up, LeRon Buettner of Shawno, Wis. and Mike Kroes of McFarland, Wis. created dessert dishes that were crowd favorites and each received Destination Kohler getaways.
More than 50 contestants submitted food and beverage recipes from September 5-30, 2017, using Kohler Dark Chocolate Brandy or Kohler Chocolate Mint Brandy. The contest encouraged individuals to enter cocktail or food recipes utilizing one or both of the uniquely blended, chocolate-infused brandies from Kohler Co. Incorporating the unique blend of chocolate created exclusively for the company, the new spirit is naturally infused with Kohler’s dark chocolate, providing an unmatched spirits taste and experience. The Dark Chocolate Brandy and Chocolate Mint Brandy are available at Destination Kohler, home to the Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five-Diamond resort-hotel, as well as more than 350 retailers and restaurants throughout Wisconsin.

16 OUNCES KOHLER ORIGINAL RECIPE HOT CHOCOLATE
3 OUNCES KOHLER DARK CHOCOLATE BRANDY
3 OUNCES JAKE’S GINGER TEA
1/2 C. HEAVY WHIPPING CREAM
1 T. CONFECTIONERS SUGAR
1 BAR KOHLER SAVORY DARK CHOCOLATE, CHOPPED INTO 1/4” – 1/2” PIECES
Gently warm Jake’s Ginger Tea in small saucepan (or microwave for 5 – 10 seconds).
Divide Kohler Original Recipe Hot Chocolate into two 16-ounce mugs.
Gently stir 1.5 ounce (one shot glass) of Jake’s Ginger Tea into each mug. Gently stir 1.5 ounce (one shot glass) Kohler Dark Chocolate Brandy into each mug.
Add a large dollop of whipped cream (recipe below) and chopped chocolate from a Kohler Savory Dark Chocolate bar.
Place a stainless steel mixing bowl and beaters in freezer for 15 minutes. Beat 1/2 c. very cold whipping cream until soft peaks form. Sprinkle with 1 T. confectioner’s sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.
Do not overbeat.
