This new subdivision will enhance residential options in the charming Village of Kohler
KOHLER, Wis. – February 7, 2019 – Kohler Co. is pleased to announce the development of The Clearings, a multiphased housing development in the Village of Kohler, Wisconsin. Located on the west side of Woodland Road between Forest and Woodlake Roads, the first phase of the subdivision is underway with Village Realty & Development beginning to sell lots in the third quarter of 2019.
The Clearings will be developed in the spirit and character of present-day homes in the Village. With thoughtful curation of the land, The Clearings will include street lights, sidewalks, trees, and municipal water and sewer. Phase One consists of 77 lots ranging from 0.2 to 1.1 acres. The Village was one of the first planned communities in the United States and is known for its historical roots and charming demeanor. The Village is home to 2,105 residents; the Kohler Public School system, which consistently scores amongst the highest-ranked education systems by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction; Kohler Co. headquarters and Destination Kohler – a five-star, five-diamond resort experience with the century-old American Club at its center.
Walter Kohler, Sr., president and CEO of Kohler Co. from 1905-1937, and Richard Philipp visited Europe to learn about garden communities and what constituted good living. When they returned, they met with the Olmsted Brothers and laid out a plan for the Village, which was to be a garden community at the factory gate because he believed workers, “deserved not only wages, but roses as well.”
A second 50-year plan was designed by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. Both design firms paid special attention to encouraging community involvement and enhancing the Village experience.
