Sheboygan Internal Medicine Associates announces retirement of Dr. Vytas Kerpe and addition of Dr. Matthew Hemsing to the practice
Sheboygan, WI – July 6, 2020 – After caring for Sheboygan county patients as a primary care physician for more than 40 years, Dr. Vytas K. Kerpe retired from the Sheboygan Internal Medicine Associates group practice. His current patients have a native of the area to continue their care as Dr. Matthew R. Hemsing joined the group late in 2019. Just as Kerpe was retiring, Covid-19 hit the area and delayed the formal announcement for Hemsing. Now, as businesses open up and people are more comfortable returning for routine and follow up health care appointments, the timing is ideal to celebrate Hemsing’s addition to the group.
Dr. Kerpe was instrumental in developing the St. Nicholas Hospital Diabetes Program and their Dialysis Unit as diabetes management and diseases of the kidneys have been his career-long interests. Kerpe earned a Doctor of Medicine from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Illinois where he was elected to the Alpha Omega honor society. After postgraduate work in pathology, an internship and residency, he came to Sheboygan. In Kerpe’s retirement he’s enjoying more bicycling, scuba diving, fishing and sailing.
Born and raised in Sheboygan, Dr. Hemsing is a Sheboygan South High graduate who played basketball and soccer. He earned a Doctor of Medicine from St. George’s University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin. In addition to caring for Dr. Kerpe’s patients, Hemsing is accepting new patients. His personal interests are spending time with family, travel, international soccer, and following all Wisconsin Badgers sport teams.
