Strategic Plan Update

Quynh Trueblood makes note that the Kohler School District is high performing and is consistently frugal with taxpayer dollars. A potential referendum would result in a minimal increase in taxes..

School Perceptions survey presentation on potential referendum

Board President’s Report (Dr. Jane Bishop)

Dr. Bishop attended the 99th state education convention sponsored by Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB), Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators (WASDA), and Wisconsin Association of School Business Officials (WASBO). School board members from across the state attended. The convention was very informative and worthwhile.

Superintendent’s Report (Quynh Trueblood)

Administrative Contract

I thank the Board for its favorable rating and feedback on my performance and contract offer which I accept gladly. It is my privilege to be entrusted with serving the community with educating the children of Kohler Schools. Leading a district of distinction and pride is purposeful life work for which I am grateful. Thank you for your confidence and support. We have legacy work straight ahead and I am excited to get at it!

Kohler Memorial Theater Open House and Dedication

The open house and dedication of the renovated theatre was marked by proud representation by the project partners Mr. Herbert Kohler, Mr. Tom Schnettler, and Dr. Jane Bishop. The event was well attended. I give praise to the students of the Kohler High School fine arts program for a job well done at their “tour stop” where they shared fun facts about the construction process and improvements on the features of the theatre. These students are a fine example of what is possible when school children have opportunity to perform on a world class performing arts theatre.

Elementary Principal Report (Lisa Greene)

On Feb. 2, Mrs. Bruggink had a beautiful baby girl (Maizie Grace). We are happy to have Mrs. Nancy Kurten join us during Mrs. Bruggink’s family leave. Mrs. Kurten had a great first week and has thoroughly enjoyed getting to know her students! We are looking forward to her continued success in Mrs. Bruggink’s absence.

On Friday, Feb. 7th, the elementary students had our February Bomber Pride Assembly in our new theatre. The staff and students were so happy and excited to be in such a lovely space to gather as a school to celebrate our successes and to learn about our February focus of how learning patience will help us build a culture of kindness.

Tess Trueblood put together a little video message for the elementary students to thank them for their love and support during her journey this past year. In her 30 second video, she mentioned to the kids that the year 2020 is a leap year, which would allow them to have one extra day this year to spread love. This idea inspired me, and we are taking Tess’s extra day of love and giving it a Kohler Elementary twist to make Saturday, Feb. 29th An Extra Day to Spread Extra Kindness! I am challenging every elementary student to do 3 extra kind acts for someone on our extra leap year day, Feb. 29th. We will make the extra day extra special by being extra kind!

MS-HS Principal Report (Nicholas DeBaker)

In late December a team of us sat with a representative from Skyward for the purpose of cleaning up our schedule. We were able to identify some pretty significant errors in terms of data clean up. We got started right away cleaning those up and now the next step will be to input student course requests. The final step will be another full day with our rep and we will construct the Master schedule based on course requests. The goal will be to have the best possible Master schedule with the fuest number conflicts.

We had a very successful Winterfest dance on Saturday night. We changed locations from the cafeteria to the event lobby outside of the gym. The students really seemed to have a good time and there were zero issues.

Parent teacher conferences are this week in the middle and high school. They are a little different this time around. We have them by appointment this time. The parents can log into skyward family access and set a time that works best for them. We are hoping this cuts down on long lines outside of teachers doors.

Interscholastic Athletic Report

Matt Zavada, athletic director, presented. His presentation is available on the District website under Board of Education in Board Docs.

Review of District Finances

The Finance Committee met February 10, 2020 and reviewed the monthly revenues and expenditures. The committee also reviewed a mill rate analysis that compared Kohler School District’s 2019-20 mill rate to the Wisconsin state average and other Big East Conference schools.
